I never in a million and a half years thought I would photograph a maternity session. I love weddings so much that it never even crossed my mind. However, when sweet Kristie emailed me and asked, (she wanted me to photograph her wedding a couple years ago but I was already booked) I couldn’t say no… although I did tell her I would only shoot it on medium format film :)
So, one Friday afternoon my assistant and I drove two and a half hours north of New Orleans to one of the prettiest places I’ve been in Louisiana. There I met Mrs. Kristie, her southern beau Matt, their dog Daisy, and their baby-girl-in-tummy. We drove over to a sugar cane field where the light and the sky decided to be perfect and I secretly decided that I wanted to live on a farm in rural Louisiana. To make things more beautiful, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone as happy as Kristie was.
I feel so humbled that they trusted me, a random stranger, enough to photograph a snippet of their life that day. We as photographers should never take what we do lightly. People put so much trust in us not only to see laughs and secret glances, but to capture them on film. I hope that these photographs show the world the tiniest fraction of the happiness that I saw and felt that day. Happy Friday!!!
